The Roof Garden Jass Band
New York

Is it 1917& the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB), or 1998 with Dan Levinson? With this fantastic group it's hard to tell. The Roof Garden Jass Band re-creates the music, sound, and emotion of the historic ODJB. It's now 81 years since ODJB ushered in the "Jazz Age" from Riesenweber's Café N.Y. -- January 1917, followed by the first jazz recording in history on February 26, 1917 - Victor -"Dixie Jazz Band One Step" and "Livery Stable Blues." The music is unique and seldom heard form of jazz, an exhilarating hybrid of ragtime and early 20th century music forms with an emphasis on ensemble playing rather than individual solos. "A conversation between instruments" as ODJB cornetist Nick LaRocca called it.

Dan and the members of the roof Garden Jazz Band are superior musicians and well known for their work in New York, across the USA, Europe, and the Far East. Thanks to their combined talents, we are able to relive the music of ODJB.
