Yankee Rhythm Kings
Formed in 1974, the band is one of Boston's oldest and most respected traditional jazz ensembles. The band, unique from the start, goes with a drummerless rhythm section modeled after the famed Turk Murphy ensemble. The result is a lighter more flexible style which enables the group to explore more deeply into the jazz and ragtime repertoire. They are truly an ensemble - where the musician (e.g.soloist) is the jewel of the crown, not the crown itself. When it comes to Dixieland ensemble playing nobody does it as good as Bob Connors and the Yankee Rhythm Kings. If you enjoy the driving rhythm and sounds of such greats as King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, or the subtlety of Bix Beiderbecke and Scott Joplin you will enjoy the Yankee Rhythm Kings.
